School of Management

The Department of Business at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) was established in 2005 and has already gained a reputation for the quality and diversity of its programs. It aims to add value to its program participants learning and knowledge. The programs have been designed by a team that has a rich experience of developing and leading high quality management programs at undergraduate, graduate, and at Executive levels, in Pakistan.

Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences

The Department of Computer Science is part of the Faculty of Information Technology (IT) and Mathematics. It offers rigorous undergraduate and postgraduate programs for students who are excited by the influence of computing and want to tackle the IT challenges of tomorrow. Computer Science is a fast-changing field. Our program aims to equip students with a fundamental knowledge that enables them to keep abreast of the developments, to contribute in the field of IT and to innovate.

The Department of Statistics at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) was established in 1974, with the vision, to provide the best quality education in Statistics and high quality statistical services in Pakistan. It has evolved ever since by adding resources in terms of newly developed courses keeping in view the demand of the day, highly qualified faculty, and various professional development opportunities.

Faculty of Humanities

The connection between Forman Christian College and the teaching of English has a very long history. FCCU evolved from the Mission School, which was established in 1849 as the first English-medium school in Lahore. In 1864 a College section was started, which was later renamed Forman Christian College after its founder. By 1901, FCCU had started MA English classes.

Department of Religious Studies contributes to fulfill the mission, vision and values of FCCU by creating an atmosphere that is conducive to character building, liberal arts education, higher order thinking skills, and inter-faith relations. Here students have the opportunity to study in a religiously diverse environment where they work together with people of different religious faiths, ethnicity and culture. The Department adopts an interdisciplinary approach to the academic study of religion to provide students a broader understanding of the role of religion in human life. Although most courses offered by the Department are on Islam and Christianity, we do not endorse a particular creed or sectarian position.

The Department of Urdu is one of the oldest at FCCU and has had renowned faculty such as Maulana Farzand Ali, Dr Agha Suhail and Prof Iqbal Ahmed Khan. Both teachers and students take an active interest in the fields of research, creative writing and literary criticism. The department has also produced some fine writers.

Faculty of Natural Sciences

The Biological Sciences Department was founded in 1870. A long line of distinguished professors – including Dr Saithi, Dr Purio, Dr HK Bhatti and Dr KK Bell – have made significant contributions to the Department and the field of Biological Sciences, in general. The last few years have been busy and productive for the department. At the undergraduate level, 4-year degree program in Biotechnology and majors in Biological Sciences and Bioinformatics are offered.

The well qualified and experienced faculty is involved in various research programs involving both graduate and undergraduate students. The department has six dedicated research and four teaching laboratories with state-of the-art equipment.

The department has state-of-the-art facilitates available for research in several significant areas including  Natural Products, Organic Synthesis, Organometallics, Nano and Composite Materials, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

The Environmental Sciences Program at FCCU aims to identify environmental problems and their causes. Environment issues world-wide are studied and emphasis is on environmental issues in Pakistan. Faculty and students through energetic courses, descriptive field trips, and quality research work, propose workable guidelines for conservation, restoration, and sustainability of the environment to meet local and national needs.

Physics has been taught at Forman Christian College since it was established in 1864. The Department of Physics was instituted in 1907 with Prof DJ Fleming as its first Head. A long line of distinguished professors and prominent scientists have served at this department, including Nobel Laureate Dr Arthur Compton, Prof J M Benade and Dr Piara Singh Gill.

Faculty of Social Sciences

The Department of Economics at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) has been offering the undergraduate program since 1915. The Department has evolved over time, adding resources, introducing new and wider range of courses, upgrading curricula and adding new scholars to bring it up to par with contemporary needs.

The Department of Political Science at Forman Christian (A Chartered University) is one of the largest departments in Social Sciences. The department’s teaching faculty had the distinction of having scholars of national and international prominence like Dr Carl W Wheeless, Prof Mary Wheeless, Dr Kitchen, Dr Anwar M Barkat, Dr Arshad Karim Syed, Dr Shokat Ali, Dr Hamid Kizilbash, Prof Naseem Zakariya, Dr Parveen Shaukat and Dr Shafqat Hussain Chaudhary.

After careful and deliberate thinking and diligent planning the department of Psychology offers an MS in Clinical Psychology. The duration of the MS in Clinical Psychology is two years and is a full-time program, five days a week.

The concept of the Centre for Public Policy and Governance (CPPG) was initiated by the Rector of Forman Christian College in conjunction with the Director, CPPG, in July of 2007. This was followed by development of a strategic plan and building of an advisory board for the Centre. Envisioned as an academic, research and training institute, the first member of the research team was hired in spring of 2008 followed by the launch of Faculty Seminar Series and the Research & News Quarterly publication.
