The Earth Watch Club, in collaboration with Bio-Enviro Educators (BEE), has taken a significant step towards environmental sustainability by installing waste segregation bins across the FCCU campus. This initiative was complemented by a seminar titled “Empowering Environmental Responsibility: Implementing Waste Segregation at FCCU,” held on March 26, 2024, as part of an awareness and action campaign.
This endeavor was funded by the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Pakistan (Global UGRAD-Pakistan) under the U.S. Department of State, with support from IREX, secured by Mr. Muazzam Adeel, a final-year undergraduate student majoring in Biological Sciences and an alumnus of the UGRAD program.
The seminar, attended by over eighty participants, featured Mr. Umar Farooq, Senior Manager of Communication at Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), as the guest speaker. The main focus was on advocating for waste segregation, recycling practices, and instilling a sense of environmental responsibility within the FCCU community.
The project, which saw waste segregation bins installed at key locations within the campus highlights the importance of waste management, and the promotion of resource recovery, contributing primarily to Sustainable Development Goals 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
