Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) has a vacancy for Laboratory Technician in Biological Sciences Department.

The laboratory technician will be responsible for laboratory based tasks by providing technical support to teachers and students, ensuring that instrument/equipment is functioning properly and ready to use and all the materials needed in laboratory work are available.

Responsibilities:

  1. To coordinate with academic staff to discuss equipment requirements and work plans on weekly/monthly basis
  2. To maintain laboratory equipment/instruments, microscopes and all kinds of glass apparatus.
  3. Prepare chemicals, solutions, media culture (including autoclaving) and set up equipment before the commencement of lab.
  4. Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned and chemicals, glassware, solutions and other materials are appropriately stored.
  5. Will procure and catalogue all store items systematically on computer and/or register and manage the control of all the stock.
  6. Make trips to the market for petty purchases needed to conduct laboratory work.
  7. Make sure that all the safety procedures are understood and followed correctly.
  8. Prepare and maintain a variety of routine laboratory records.
  9. Perform other related duties supplementary to the work described herein.
  10. Will be willing to work on Saturdays and off hours as and when required by the head of the department.
  11. Should be ready to undertake any training deemed necessary by the department/administration (English proficiency courses, lab training courses etc.)
  12. He is expected to be respectful to students and faculty and physically sound and healthy.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Candidates with BSc degree, familiar with Microsoft word and excel computer programs, and minimum 2 years experience in laboratory work.
