Dr. Altaf Ullah Khan

DEPARTMENT OF MASS COMMUNICATION

Dr. Altaf Khan has a PhD from the Institute of KMW, University of Leipzig, Germany, as DAAD scholar (2004). He was Glidden Visiting Professor in Spring 2018 at Centre for International Journalism, Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University, USA. Senior Visiting Fulbright faculty (post doctorate) at Centre for International Studies, Ohio University, USA in 2008-09. He has taught at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at University of Peshawar from 1990 to 2018. Masters in Journalism (Gold Medalist) from JMC, UoP.

His research and teaching interests are international journalism, development communication and journalism, media systems, freedom of expression, thought, and journalism, intercultural communication, social media and the challenges to mainstream media in the era of fake news and alternative facts.

Books: News Media and Journalism in Pakistan, News Media and Journalism in Pakistan and Germany, Reporting the Frontier.

He remained Director Independent Project Reporting (IPR) 2010 to 2017 (collaboration with GIZ, Germany). Coordinator Competence and Trauma Centre for Journalists (collaboration with DW Akademie, Germany). Project Director Syllabi for Peace, 2017 (funded by USIP). Project Director capacity Building in Social Sector Reporting in the tribal areas of Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan (2008, USIP).
