 Profile:

Dr. Hamid Latif holds dual master's degrees, one in Physics from Government College University (GCU), Lahore and another in Computer Science from Punjab University (PU). He pursued MPhil in theoretical plasma physics from GCU and completed his Ph.D. in Physics jointly from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and the University of Pittsburgh, USA. During his PhD he also worked at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as a visiting scholar. He was awarded the "Young International Scientist Fellowship" by the Chinese Science Foundation and served as a scientist at the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China (2012-2013). Following this, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Maryland, USA, from 2013 to 2014.

Throughout his career, Dr. Latif has been affiliated with various educational and research institutions, including the University of Punjab, University of South Asia, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Government College University Lahore, and SUPARCO. Currently, he serves as a professor at FC College. Additionally, he also has served as a visiting faculty at the University of Maryland, USA. Dr. Latif has been a part of FCC since 2010, contributing significantly to the institution.

Research and Publications:

Dr. Latif is engaged in cutting-edge research at the intersection of experimental and computational nanophysics and focuses on pushing the boundaries of materials science. His work revolves around the fabrication of 2D materials, including graphene nano-sheets, nano ribbons, and mono- and hetero-layers of WSe2 and MoS2. He delves into a diverse range of nano-materials, including self-assembled molecular layers (SAMs), TiO2, ZnO, SnO2 nano rods, nanoparticles, and quantum dots of PbS, CdS, and perovskites.

Utilizing various thin film deposition techniques such as thermal evaporation, pulsed laser deposition (PLD), and wet chemical coating, Dr. Latif deposited various semi-conductive and conductive materials in his research. His work spans a wide array of applications, including perovskite solar cells, quantum dot-sensitized solar cells, dye-sensitized solar cells, CNTs/Si hetero-junction solar cells, field-effect transistors, PEM fuel cells, Li-ion batteries, and biosensors.

Dr. Latif successfully secured funding for two projects:

  • "Energy Storing, Lighter, and Stronger Textiles" project, a collaborative effort between the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) and the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), focusing on Li1.2Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13O2/C /Ag Coated Yarn (cathode) and rGO/Unzipped MWCNTs Yarn (anode) (amounting to 12.5 Million PKRs).
  • "Fabrication of a Novel Carbon Nano-Material based Perovskite Solar Cells and its Stability Enhancement by Self-Assembled Mono-layers," approved by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (amounting to 4.2 Million PKRs).
