The Office of the Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth (OSGEY) – together with the Office of the Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on the Commemoration of the United Nations 75th Anniversary, and Devex – is launching an essay competition to showcase and further scale up how young people will take the lead on shaping the future we want by leading the “new normal” post COVID19.
This essay competition is a call for young people between the ages of 15 and 29 to share their views and suggestions about the future UN as it marks its 75th anniversary.
The essay competition encourages young people to voice how they see the role of the United Nations going forward as the world goes through the COVID-19 pandemic; which has heightened and highlighted the pre-existing and pervasive global challenges of the climate crisis, rising inequalities within and among countries, new types of conflicts and violence, digital transformation, and demographic shifts. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a deeper understanding of the importance and urgent need for strengthening global solidarity and multilateralism. Within the context of this “new normal” that has unfolded post-COVID-19, and as we plan and re-build to recovery, what does the future of the UN look like to you?
The deadline for submissions is on the 29th of June, 2020.
