With an agenda to identify the gap between media industry and academics, the Association of Media and Communication Academic Professionals (AMCAP) founding members visited the Forman Christian College (A Chartered University). The purpose of the visit was to introduce the initiative among the Mass Communication faculty and an effort to bring together media academics and professionals from across Pakistan under one roof.

The members of the association are visiting public and private universities and have received favorable response. Dr Bushra Rehman, Chair AMCAP, introduced their initiative to the faculty members of the Department of Mass Communication. She encouraged them to become members of the association and said, “We are here on a mission and the mission is to collaborate.” She stressed upon the need to make media education more effective through collaboration between academics and research work in order to contribute in the national discourse.

Dr Abida Ejaz while emphasizing on the need to have Pakistan’s own association said, “Whenever we go to international conferences to present papers, we find different associations with reference to media and communication. Their networking is very strong but unfortunately in Pakistan we don’t have such platforms where we can connect and share ideas with each other easily and initiate different research projects. Therefore, AMCAP will provide a platform for the mass communication departments to synergise and come up with their own research journals.”

Dean of Humanities, Dr Nukhbah Langah, appreciated the initiative and discussed her concerns about teaching linkages with the visiting team of scholars. Ms Rachel Hasan, Chairperson Department of Mass Communication, endorsed the idea of the association and discussed the efforts department is making in terms of research and professional development with the delegates. She informed the members that understanding to bridge the gap between academia and professional journalism, the department organized a meet-up with professionals of different media houses and upgraded the syllabus afterwards to meet the modern day needs.

The independent body will arrange conferences, seminars and assist in launching research projects and other scholarly activities from a channelized platform. The registrations will be done in four different categories, full memberships for full time faculty members, associated memberships for visiting faculty, honorary memberships for media professionals and then for MPhil and Phd students.

The committee will allocate a focal person from each institute who is responsible for doing the registrations to make the academicians more engaged in learning together.
