The Department of Chemistry, Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) organized three day international conference “Exploring New Avenues in Medicinal Chemistry: Opportunities & Challenges” from 21 to 23 January 2015. NovaMed Pharma Pvt Ltd., HEC and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC, Pakistan Section) were main sponsors of the conference. The Public Affairs Office of the US Consulate General very graciously sponsored the travel of Plenary Speakers from the USA. The inaugural ceremony was presided by Dr. Deen Muhammad President Chemical Society of Pakistan attended by the worthy Rector Dr. James A. Tebbe, Dr. Kauser A. Malik Dean Postgraduate Studies & Director ORIC, Dr. Dildar Ahmed (Professor, Director ORIC and Head of Chemistry Department, Forman Christian College (A Chartered University), Mr. Muhammad Idrees CEO NovaMed Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Dr. C.M. Ashraf Representative Royal Society of Chemistry (Pakistan Section), and Dr. Amjad Aqeel from Qarshi University.

The conference was attended by participants from all over the country, invited Plenary Speakers were Dr. C. Frank Shaw III (Professor Emeritus, Department of Chemistry, Illinois State University, USA), Dr. Zahid H. Siddik (Professor of Medicine (Pharmacology), Department of Experimental Therapeutics, Division of Cancer Medicine, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA) and Dr. George S. Johnson (National Cancer Institute (Retired), National Institute of Health (NIH), USA). Invited Keynote Speakers included Dr. Jamshed Iqbal (Professor, Center for Advanced Drug Research, & Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, COMSATS IIT, Abbottabad, Pakistan), Dr. Rumana Qureshi (Professor (Retired), Department of Chemistry, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan), Dr. M. Saeed (Department of Chemistry, SBA, School of Science & Engineering, LUMS, Lahore, Pakistan), Dr. Farzana Latif Ansari (Professor (Retired), Department of Chemistry, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan) and Dr. Shahid Bilal Butt (Central Analytical Facility Division, PINSTECH, Nilore, Islamabad, Pakistan).

Dr. Peter Wipf (Professor, Departments of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Bioengineering, University of Pittsburgh; Molecular Therapeutics Program, Pittsburgh Cancer Institute) and Dr. Athar Atta (Professor & Chair, Department of Chemistry, University of Winnipeg, Winnipeg, Canada) gave lectures via Skype.
