Baccalaureate (Hons) in Education

The BS degree follows a liberal arts education framework. This provides every student the opportunity to explore the breadth of knowledge by taking courses in varied disciplines to fulfill the general education requirements and be better prepared to face the world. In addition it provides every student the opportunity to explore in depth the field of education as their area of concentration.

 

Graduates from this program are well prepared to face the challenges of the real classroom and impact young lives as they teach. A unique feature of this program is a full semester of teaching practice during the final year which provides the student-teacher with a real-world classroom experience. The student-teacher works in close association with the cooperating teacher at the school and the advisor from FCC. It helps the prospective teacher visualize his/her career. Our education graduates make a difference: they TEACH!

To produce prospective educational professionals committed to bring about a positive and sustainable change in society through transformative pedagogical practices and problem-solving skills to create life-long learners.

  1. To develop among students a comprehensive understanding of the field of education.
  2. To enable students to identify complex problems prevailing in school education and conduct research studies to understand concerned phenomena and improve practices.
  3. To help students to integrate ideas, disciplines, perspectives and contexts to understand complex educational phenomena and improve professional practices.
  4. To enable students to identify areas of personal interest and motivate them to commit to professional excellence, life-long learning, teaching as a career and educational research.
  1. Demonstrate concepts, theories and models of the field of education that may include but not limited to, teaching, learning, assessment, educational technology, educational research, counseling and educational administration.
  2. Conduct research projects to understand complex educational phenomena or solve educational problems.
  3. Apply appropriate pedagogical approaches and strategies to cater to the learning needs of all students in mixed ability classrooms.
  4. Demonstrate integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in their teaching and assessment strategies and other academic activities using innovative ideas.
  5. Devise self-regulated learning plans to keep them abreast with advancements in the field of education and to make efforts to fill the gaps in educational phenomena.
  6. Identify opportunities for career advancement and further education related to the field of education.

Eligibility criteria For BS (Hons):
● Students who have passed their Intermediate
● A- Level students who have cleared at least 3 principal A-Level exams (not AS Level) Equivalence attested from the IBCC Needed
● A- Level students who have given their A levels exams in October, November and are awaiting results are eligible to apply, they need to attach a copy of the statement of entry
● Students who have done their American High School. Equivalence needed attested from the IBCC
● Students who have done their Intermediate from the Technical Board
● Students applying for BS (Hons) Biotechnology must have done Fsc Pre-Medical or should have studied Biology and Chemistry in A-Level
