Has been the Executive Director of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan; has initiated an extensive outreach program to help Pakistanis thinking about studying in the US to learn more about opportunities for study at the undergraduate and graduate levels; served as an Administrator for the State of Maryland while also teaching at The Johns Hopkins University, The Catholic University of America, and the College of Notre Dame of Maryland; served as Director International Center on Global Aging;  has worked with Pakistan’s National Council of Social Welfare on the Pakistan National Aging Study; worked in collaboration with the Pakistan National Centre on Ageing; has been Member of the British Royal Geographic Expedition to Chitral; has worked on updating the situation of Pakistan’s zakat system; Past President and current Board member of the American Council for the Study of Islamic Societies; Past President and current Board member of the National Association for Training and Staff Development; an affiliate of the American Human Services Association; currently serves on the Board of the International Federation on Ageing
Research interests: interrelationships of social policy, religion, children, women, aging, and governmental systems

Fellow-Commoner at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge; Executive Director of the Center for Dialogue and Action; is an adviser to the Three Faiths Forum and patron of charities aiming for global peace and world solutions, such as the UK Friends of the Bereaved Families Forum; is the only female Muslim member of the steering committee of the International Abrahamic Forum and was a member of the body that advises the UK government on Religious Education (SACRE)
