The old A Block at FC College was renamed and dedicated as the Seemi Tajammal Building at FCC in honor of the wife of a loyal alumnus, Mr Tajammal Husain Jafri. Mr Jafri was an FSc student at FCC from 1962 to 1964. After completing his Intermediate, he continued his education at Punjab University where he did an MPharm in 1969. In 1972 he went to the US where he completed a 2-year residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, and then worked at a number of renowned multinational pharmaceutical companies. After working in the US for 35 years, Mr Jafri is now retired.

In a dedication ceremony attended by a number of alumni and faculty, the Rector praised the role of the alumni and the leadership of the President of the Alumni Association, Chaudhry Ahmad Saeed. He then said that in his 40 years as rector or president of various universities, he had never received an unsolicited gift until Mr Tajammal Jafri’s donation of Rs 16 million to FCC. Mr Jafri had made the gift to acknowledge the role FCC had played in his personal development and to help students who would not be able to study here without scholarships. FCC was recognizing his gift by naming the Examination Hall in the new Armacost Science Building the Tajammal Jafri Hall. Mr Jafri himself had requested that the A Building be named after his wife Seemi Tajammal. FC College was proud to have his and his wife’s name in the college.

In a humorous and modest address, Mr Tajammal Jafri said that he was proud of having done a number of things in his life, but most of all that his father had put him into FC College. He joked, “My father said, ‘Either FC College or a cycle repair shop!’” He said that FC College had turned him around; he had learnt everything at FC, in fact he had found himself here. Referring to his generous donation, he said, “I didn’t give away any money, I have invested it in the future.” He thought the students at FC were very lucky to be here. He advised them, “When the time comes to pay back, don’t forget FC.”
