The Department of Mass Communication was established in 2003, with Professor Saleem Abbas as its founding chairman. The department aims to equip its students with all the tools that are required to secure a job or pursue higher research degrees. This is made possible by a dedicated faculty as well as links with the media industry.
The research courses that the department offers are unparalleled in Pakistan. A particular attention is paid to the topics of research. It is ensured that novice researchers learn and properly implement research methodologies suiting their projects. Students get individual attention of research supervisors at every stage of their research, an edge only a few Pakistani universities offer.
Currently the department offers a Major and Minor for Baccalaureate students.
The department publishes quarterlies Forman News and Communicator, and offers a variety of co-curricular activities under its Journalism Society. Future plans include MPhil and PhD programs, university FM radio, a TV studio and a newsroom for hands-on training and in-house broadcasting.
The Mass Communication faculty have their offices in the Sinclair Building.
